Dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period (circa 1890–1910), this remarkable stick pin depicts a mischievous leprechaun — a figure from Irish folklore long associated with luck, hidden treasures, and playful trickery.

The face, finely carved from moonstone, shows an expressive character full of personality, while the polished 18ct gold hat lends a touch of refinement. His elaborate collar is set with bright green peridots, a gemstone historically linked with vitality and good fortune, their vivid colour reinforcing the Irish theme.

Stick pins such as this were highly fashionable at the turn of the 20th century, often serving as conversation pieces and reflecting the period’s fascination with novelty jewellery. The quality of the carving, combined with the imaginative subject matter and use of precious materials, makes this jewel an exceptional example of its kind. Both a charming accessory and a rare survivor, it embodies the playful spirit of late Victorian and Edwardian adornment.

Unmarked but tests as 18ct Gold, The head measures approximately 1.7cm from hat to tie and 1.2cm across, the stick pin with a total length of 6.1cm.
