A highly decorative early 20th-century folding screen, full of character and visual interest.
The front is hand painted with a charming nocturnal scene of owls set against foliage and moonlight, executed in a naïve, folk-art style. The reverse is equally engaging, carefully decorated with cigar wrappers, giving the piece an inventive second surface and making it fully double sided.
Both sides are visually strong, allowing the screen to work beautifully as a room divider or as a decorative backdrop, depending on how it is positioned. An unusual and conversation-worthy piece with real presence.
