Antique Chinese Embroidered Manton de Manila Shawl
A beautiful antique Chinese embroidered Manton de Manila shawl, finely worked in silk on a black ground with an elegant display of flowering branches and birds in a harmonious palette of soft lilac, coral, ivory, turquoise and pale green. The generous hand-knotted silk fringe completes the piece beautifully, making it equally suited for display or occasional wear.
Originally produced in China for the Spanish and Latin American markets, Manton de Manila shawls became synonymous with traditional Spanish dress and flamenco culture. Today they remain highly sought after for their exquisite craftsmanship, decorative appeal and rich cultural history.

Condition: Good antique condition overall. One side of the shawl has slight even, gentle fading when compared to the other side. The fading is uniform rather than patchy and does not detract from its decorative appeal. There is also one very small hole, approximately 1 mm in diameter.
