A rare and highly decorative Victorian butterfly display case, beautifully composed in the tradition of late 19th-century natural history displays. The glazed wooden case houses an elegant arrangement of pale cream butterflies, carefully mounted amongst naturalistic branches, dried foliage, mosses and stones, forming a striking and atmospheric tableau.

The freestanding case is of substantial scale, with turned uprights, shaped feet and a carved cresting, all executed in a rich, warm-toned wood. The delicate iridescence of the butterflies contrasts superbly with the darker organic elements, giving the piece depth, balance and visual drama.

An exceptional surviving example of Victorian collecting and display, combining natural history, craftsmanship and decorative appeal. Ideal as a statement interior piece or for inclusion within a cabinet of curiosities.

The Morpho butterflies have naturally faded over time, as expected with historic specimens, and display some losses and areas of fragility. These age-related changes are consistent with a genuine Victorian example and do not detract from the overall decorative impact. The case shows general wear commensurate with age.
