An Aesthetic Movement ebonised armchair, often referred to as an ‘Old English’ or Jacobean’ model, from a design by E.W. Godwin (1833–1886), made by Collier & Plucknett c.1880

Of circular form with pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery, square uprights topped by pyramid finials, a slatted curved back, and central block stretcher. The seat frame with original cane holes now re-webbed and upholstered with Beata Heuman marbelized velvet.

Dimensions: 84 cm high × 56 cm wide × 52 cm deep.

Good solid chair, with marks and small losses commensurate with age. Evidence of old inactive woodworm to front left leg.
