A large and decorative Suzani embroidered in silk on a linen ground, worked in soft terracotta reds, coral and pale blue. The design centres on a bold floral medallion within an arched panel, surrounded by scrolling vines and large stylised rosettes to the corners and borders.
Suzanis were traditionally produced in Central Asia as part of a bride’s dowry, each one hand-embroidered and entirely unique. I particularly like the balance here between the strong central motif and the delicate trailing floral embroidery across the ground.
Dating to the mid 20th century, this is a striking decorative textile that works beautifully as a wall hanging, bed cover or simply draped over furniture to add colour and warmth to a room.
Size: 255 × 185 cm
A lovely large example with an easy palette that works well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
