A beautifully decorative Japanese Meiji period embroidered silk wall hanging, finely worked on a soft duck egg blue silk ground with a tranquil scene of wild geese amongst flowering branches, cascading wisteria and large peony-like blossoms, all enclosed within an elegant floral vine border.
Exquisitely embroidered in coloured silks with delicate tonal shading, the composition captures the naturalistic style for which Japanese Meiji textiles are so admired. Of impressive scale, this striking wall hanging would make a superb focal point in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Dimensions: 175 × 140 cm.
Condition: Light staining and age-related fading to the silk ground. Small areas of loss to the embroidery together with losses and wear to the outer border. Overall, it displays beautifully and remains an impressive decorative textile.
