A highly decorative reverse-painted glass panel depicting two stylised birds in animated flight amongst abundant roses and foliage, heightened with metallic foil placed behind the glass to create a luminous, reflective ground.

The fluid black contouring, jewel-like colour palette and romanticised natural forms are strongly evocative of the decorative spirit associated with Dora Carrington and the wider Bloomsbury circle during the 1920s and 30s.

Carrington is known to have produced a small number of intimate decorative works for friends and private interiors, and Bloomsbury artists more broadly saw select pieces retailed through fashionable London establishments including Fortnum & Mason. This panel very much captures that same romantic, hand-crafted sensibility.

The composition retains a distinctly hand-painted quality, with visible brush speckling, tonal variation and spontaneous detailing. The simple foil backing catches the light beautifully, creating a soft glow behind the birds and blooms.

Presented in a gilt frame with age-related wear. Minor rubbing and small losses to areas of foil consistent with age, but overall displaying exceptionally well.
