A fabulous and highly decorative Pearly Queen jacket, beautifully tailored in black wool and extensively embellished with an extraordinary array of mother-of-pearl, pearlised, glass and decorative buttons.
The back is particularly striking, with “PEARLY QUEEN” worked in buttons across the shoulders, above an elaborate crown and large star motif. The front is equally decorative, with scrolling and floral buttonwork, horseshoe motifs and a wonderful red and pink heart to the centre. Further button decoration extends around the collar, cuffs and hem.
Beautifully tailored with a fitted waist and gently flared silhouette, this is a wonderfully characterful and highly individual piece of wearable folk art.
